There little information about this bird, although it is found throughout Brazil and several Latin American countries (Colombia, Argentina, Paraguay, Venezuela, Guianas). Live in places near water, such as river banks and dams, where I photographed this one. It feeds on arthropods.

Pica Pau Carijó (Chrysoptilus melanochloros) - Green-Barred Woodpecker
This species is not very common in the region. Probably a male because the females have "mustache" with black coloring. Food: insects, especially ants, but also feeds on fruits.

Saí-andorinha (Tersina viridis) - Swallow Tanager

Garça Azul ( Egretta caerulea) - Little Blue Heron

Cardeal-de-Nordeste (Paroaria dominicana) - Red-cowled Cardinal
This bird is originally from northeastern Brazil with expansion of its territory to the southeast probably introduction, or captive birds scapes.
The species pictured was alone, the only observed on occasion. I have observed birds on site for two years, and this was the first local record of the species.
For its beauty, and its sing ( singing using 7 musical notes) is constant target of hunters birds.
Local Observation: Barra Bonita Dam - Tiete River
São Manuel City, São Saulo State

Suiriri (Tyrannus melancholicus) - Tropical Kingbird

Beija-flor-tesoura (Eupetomena macroura) - Swallow-tailed Hummingbird
The hummingbirds are notable for their bright color and strong for their delicate shape and their flight, sometimes fast, sometimes hovering in the air.
The Swallow-tailed Hummingbird is the most common Brazilians hummingbirds. With up to 19 cm in length, is one of the largest of this group of birds, and its tail is longer than its own body.
Like other hummingbirds feed on the nectar of flowers, but may occasionally capture small insects. It is a territorial species, and defends its territory with fast attack flights against the invaders. And is respected!
One thing that caught my attention is that to vocalize his singing puts his tongue out of its beak.

This bird has been previously presented in this blog, but whenever I see him I still take new pictures
The common name comes from the resemblance of this bird that has her singing with the act of giving rope clock. Old clocks, of course, since in modern clocks we use batterys and rope clock are not required..
It is a insectivore bird which feeds mainly dipterous (flies) and Lepidoptera (butterflies). They are very active and quick, and for this reason difficult to photograph for those who do not use a recorder with the sound of their singing. In his excitement, sometimes present the characteristic feature to move laterally the tail, as illustrated in one of the photos.
This species is considered "least concern" about its existence. It has wide distribution in Brazil, and can be observed in urbanized places, especially where there woody vegetation.

Arapaçu-do-Cerrado (Lepidocolaptes angustirostris) - Narrow-billed Woodcreeper
I already had seen this bird at the place, but never was possible to photograph it due to its high mobility. They are always moving in search of insects and larvae in the grooves of the bark trees. When it realizes that are being observed, get hiding on the opposite side of the trunk relative to the observer. Scale the trunks tree very fast and with great ability.

Balança Rabo Mascarado ( Polioptila dumicola) - Masked Gnatcher
This last weekend we recorded another species that occurs in the region, which was seen by my son who accompanied me on the ride for bird watching. This is the Masked Gnatcacher (Polioptila dumicola), a little bird and very restless, which is constantly jumping from branch to branch making it difficult to observe and get a good picture. They are insectivores, which may justify their frequent mobility, to seek out and capture insects.

A cor dos olhos do Biguá (Phalacrocorax brasilianus) - The eye color of Neotropic Cormorant (Phalacrocorax brasilianus).
After several weeks, I post a picture of a very common bird here in the region (São Manoel, SP - Barra Bonita Dam). This is the Neotropic Cormorant (Phalacrocorax brasilianus), whose eyes are difficult to observe, but present a very beautiful color.
Another interesting detail of this bird, that can be mistaken with a kind of duck, but looking at your bill, we can see that is quite different from the beak of the duck, being adapted for catching fish, which make up their diet.

Black-Crowned Night-Heron (Nycticorax nycticorax): In it's feed time deserves respect.
Confiram!
In the following pictures is possiblee to see the ability that the Black-Crowned Night-Heron (Nycticorax nycticorax) has to capture and swallow prey with considerable size, especially in relation to the diameter of it's neck. Equally impressive is it stomach and digestive system, because the Sucker-mouth Catfish (Hypostomus plecostomus), the prey in this case, is a fish that has a hard and tough skin covered with big and strong scales, which gives it a considerable hardness and roughness.
Check it out!
