Garça-moura (Ardea cocoi) - Cocoi Heron

A Garça-moura, recebe diversos outros nomes no Brasil: Maguari, Baguari, Socó-de-penacho, Socó-grande, Garça-parda, João-grande. É a maior representante da família das garças (Ardeidae) no Brasil, apresentando envergadura de 1,80 metros de uma ponta da asa à outra. Sua distribuição é ampla no Brasil e também em outros países da América do Sul (Panamá, Chile, Argentina e Ilha das Malvinas).

The Cocoi Heron, receives several other names in Brazil: Maguari, Baguari, Socho-de-plume, Socho-large, brown-Heron, John-large. It is the largest representative of the family of herons (Ardeidae) in Brazil, with a wingspan of 1.80 meters from one end to the other wing end. Its distribution is widespread in Brazil and other South American countries (Panama, Chile, Argentina and the Falklands Island).

Esta ave apresenta uma plumagem bastante diferenciada em diferentes partes de seu corpo contribuindo para sua beleza: um penacho na cabeça, pequenas penas pretas em linha no pescoço, e uma plumagem que balança ao vento no peito.

This bird has a different plumage in parts of its body that contributes to its beauty: a long and black plume on its head, small black feathers on the neck line, and at the chest feathers that move with  the wind.

Apresenta uma outra característica interessante: voa melhor quando segue uma linha reta, e tem dificuldade em manobras necessitando grande espaço para os vôos em curva.

Presents another interesting feature: it flies best when it follows a straight line, and has difficulty maneuvering requiring large space for the flights in the curve.
