A maior ave voadora do Brasil, símbolo do Pantanal mato-grossense, nesta época do ano também pode ser observada no estado de São Paulo, quando algumas delas aparecem em diversos pontos da represa de Barra Bonita, formado pelos rios Tiete e Piracicaba.
São aves grandes, com 3 metros de envergadura (medida de ponta a ponta das asas abertas). Só é menor que a ave Condor dos Andes. Também conhecida como Jaburu, seu nome deriva do tupi guarani, que quer dizer "pescoço inchado".
As fotos postadas foram tiradas à beira da represa, na estrada vicinal que liga a cidade de São Manuel, SP, ao Clube Náutico Água Nova.
