No sábado, dia 08 de outubro deste ano, o ponto alto ficou por conta de um casal de “freirinha” (Arundinícola leucocephala), observados na beira da represa de Barra Bonita, município de São Manuel, SP. São pássaros migrantes, portanto imagino ter chagado a temporada deles na região.
A literatura existente relata que este pássaro fica sentado em galhos, geralmente próximo a cursos d’água, de onde alçam voo para capturar insetos no ar. Na verdade também capturam insetos e aracnídeos no solo, também em voos rápidos, retornando geralmente para o mesmo ou mesmos locais.
Observando este casal, tive a sorte de flagrar o macho capturando e engolindo uma aranha, conforme poderá se observado na sequência de fotos. O macho apresenta o corpo quase todo preto com a cabeça e o pescoço branco. A fêmea tem as partes superiores marrom-acinzentadas, as inferiores esbranquiçadas e apenas a testa branca.
Presto aqui a minha homenagem a estes pequenos, porém belos e interessantes pássaros, que estão ornamentando a paisagem local nesta época do ano. Espero que tenham sucesso na criação de sua prole nesta temporada, para que estejam presentes nas próximas.
On Saturday 08th of October 2011, the highlight was on account of a couple of White-headed Marsh Tyrant (Arundinícola leucocephala), observed at the edge of the Barra Bonita dam, in São Manuel district, SP. They are migratory birds, so I guess the season of them have started in the region.
The literature reports that this bird sits on twigs, usually near streams or dams, where in rapid flight plan quickly in the air to catch insects. In fact also capture insects and arachnids in the soil, also in rapid flight, returning to the same twig.
Watching this couple, I was lucky enough to catch the male catching and swallowing a spider, as can be seen in the filmstrip. The male has the body almost all black with white head and neck. The female has the upper parts grayish-brown, whitish below, and only the forehead is white.
