Joao de Barro (Furnarius rufus) - Rufous Hornero

A postagem de hoje faz referência a um pássaro bastante comum mas que sempre despertou em mim uma especial admiração. Tem um jeito todo especial pois não pula e sim caminha com elegância. E quando no solo, entre as moitas de capim revira folhas secas e gravetos para capturar seu alimento preferido que são os insetos. Captura também minhocas e eventualmente pequenos vertebrados se houver oportunidade.

Não menos interessante é observá-lo pegando com o bico pequenas porções de barro no chão e levando para o local onde construirá o seu ninho em forma de uma pequena casa de barro, onde a fêmea faz ovoposição após o acasalamento para depois chocar os ovos. Apresentam um canto bastante forte e interessante, e o casal canta em dupla. São pássaros dóceis e muitas vezes permitem aproximação e observação a poucos metros de distância.

The post today refers to a bird quite common but that has always caused me a special admiration. It has a way of walk with grace, not jumping like other birds. And when in the ground, between the clumps of grass, turns dry leaves and twigs to catch their favorite food which are insects. Also captures worms and possibly small vertebrates if the opportunity arises.

No less interesting is watching him with his beak taking small portions of clay on the ground, and tooking to where will build his nest, in the form of a small mud house, where the female will make the oviposition after mating,  and then hatch the eggs. They have a very strong and interesting way of sing , and the couple sings in duo. They are docile birds and often draw close to allow a few meters away.
